Theoretically, that could be scheduled via TMS, but there are many complicating factors there not the least being finding an appropriate maintenance window and allowing for exceptions as needed.

That raises the issue of whether or not our infrastructure could benefit from periodic maintenance reboots.ĭoing this remotely in a manual fashion would be very time consuming.

One portable system which is regularly rebooted, however, seems to be immune. Mike Ryabin responded that he has noticed similar things with their systems. The most recent of these for Steve involved a VSX7400s system which appeared to be sending content (Visual Concert switched to green) but was in fact not. Steve noted that our Polycom systems sometimes get in a state where they do not function properly without a reboot. Steve mentioned again this documentation. It was also mentioned that Articulate Studio Pro will be offered similarly soon. This was apparently done to encourage the use of included tools like Adobe Captivate 4 and Presenter 7. He also noted that chairs and directors had received another offer from the CALS Dean's office, this time to pay for one copy of Adobe E-Learning Suite. They had their own cameras and microphones and did not need to hook up to the Polycom in any way. Apparently, no one had, but Dennis shared that Al Williamson brought a system over to Fifield today to record a VC. Steve asked if any had moved yet on getting an Accordent recording device. He added that those wanting PVX software could get it at the best price ($110.55) by going through Dell. The production units for the OCS environment have been ordered, so things are beginning to fall into place, however. Dan responded that PVX may still be worthwhile for another year or so while we get this new system working. The system wasn't purchased with that in mind but Dan thinks it might be available.ĭennis asked if this new system would replace the need for PVX software, allowing folks to use OCS instead. The system will also allow aliases in the form of phone numbers which would allow a VoIP phone to call your Office Communicator. Dan Cromer elaborated that this device brokers connections between Microsoft Office Communicator and H.323 endpoints so that OC will be able to connect to a Polycom directly without utilizing the bridge.

Steve responded that the main one involved compatibility with OCS so we could better integrate that system with our Polycom VCs. That is not the case and our capacity there is still a continuing concern.ĭennis Brown asked what new capabilities this device would bring. Note that in previous discussions on this topic Steve had mistakenly referred to this as a bridge replacement.

Dan spoke with Patrick about it, and he seemed to think he could have it in test mode within a month, but prefers to wait until spring term is over before moving to production, since it will replace the current gatekeeper. There had been a holdup while a Cisco alternative was explored (to be demoed at the next ITAC-NI meeting on April 15th), but HSC and CNS agreed that the TVCS was appropriate for OCS use, and will integrate into the overall videoconferencing environment. It has some nice features along with some bugs and Patrick is evaluating whether to stick with it or roll-back until the issues are fixed.ĭan Cromer said that Patrick Pettus is now working on a plan to allow some select group (yet to be determined) access to scheduling their own conferences.Ĭodian bridge VC gateway replacement funded ( previous discussion)ĭan Cromer had related separately to Steve that the Tandberg VCS system has been ordered.

He did hear recently that a new version of the Tandberg Management Suite was being used.
